Our Story
Chris came home one Friday evening after being out with friends sampling a fine drop at a nearby winery and said "we are going to plant a vineyard". At the time we didn't really know where we were heading. However, Barangaroo Boutique Wines was established in 2005 with the first vintage in 2007.
Our family have been working the land and in the region and Chris is a fourth generation to farm in the area. His parents tilled the land just 30 minutes away and their farm was named Barangaroo where the name has been passed on to us.
Full of enthusiasm Sheila and Chris continued to plant merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and shiraz followed by the Italian grape variety Vermentino. The vines are now really matured into the soil of buckshot loam over clay with limestone intersects and showing their real potential.
The range of wines has now expanded to include sparkling shiraz, sparkling rose' and the very popular sparkling vermentino.
The first cellar door was a small affair at the back of our house which has now grown into "The Barn" a rustic cellar door area, a large function space and an undercover raised deck area. Our all weather venue also has an expansive green partly shaded outdoor space and a lovely garden surrounds.
Our Wines
Our focus has always been on creating expressive and approachable wines. The style of wine that we like to drink and share with friends. The wines ultimately speak of our place on the ridges of Lower Norton south west of Horsham in Western Victoria. The rolling hills seem out of place in the otherwise flat Wimmera. Yet they offer a different and unique experience with distant views of Mt Arapiles to the west and the Grampians in the east.
Our philosophy is simple: great wines are made in the vineyard, they taste even better when shared in beautiful surrounds. So we set out with a vision to create a beautiful space for our guests to enjoy. Our cellar door, vineyard green, and gardens unfold as the backdrop and are perfect for sharing the good things: great wine and food in the company of others.
