The 2022 Vintage

Overview of Vintage 2022

After a dry and reasonably warm summer harvest commenced 2 weeks later than that of 2021. first of the vines was the vermentino with large bunches. The crop was just under 3 tonnes and this was about average for that grape variety.

One week later and it was the Shiraz. We have 2 blocks of shiraz with different clones in each. this allows us to pick a best fruit to make a reserve Shiraz and the remaining fruit for the normal Shiraz. The yield was 1.5 tonnes for reserve and 1 tonne for the non reserve.

Another week went by and it was a Merlot pick yielding just under 1 tonne.

About half of our Cabernet Sauvignon was also picked early to make a sparkling rose.

The remaining Cabernet Sauvignon was pick in the week just before Anzac Day in late April.

we are always the last vineyard harvested.

By the way all our harvest is manual and we would like to thank the Laharum Football and Netball club for their assistance.

We expect the 2022 vintage to be of spectacular quality.

But we cant stop there as today we commence pruning, again manually.

Pruning takes us 6 weeks and we finish just in time for the Spring weather and now vineyard growth.
